Does it add pedagogical value to traditional instruction?

When used correctly, Social Media can add an additional element to instruction. Social Media promotes differentiated learning within the curriculum. By using student's prior knowledge to on how to use social media and how to incorporate it with in the lesson, both teachers and students are learning to make connections academically and socially.

Teaching is also seen by some as a unidirectional practice: the teacher teaches, the students learn.  As we all know, this practice is antiquated (much like the old means of media consumption).  The use of social media in the classroom can provide a means for students to actively interact with the curriculum.  The teacher, as an active participant, can use this feedback to inform the direction and scope of their intended curriculum.
