Teachers, administrators, and other district personnel might use social media to share their professional development. Posting reflective blogs, videos, and other means of reflective assessment could be a great way to understand, critique, and modify one's practice. Sharing yourself as a professional in social media forums is also a great way of holding yourself accountable in your development as a teacher.
Some teachers may be resistant to the idea of openly sharing one's practice since it may seem a bit intrusive. However, if sharing and commenting is done in a constructively critical way, many teachers might choose to jump on board the social media band-wagon as a tool for professional development.
Social media could help schools become close-knit learning communities where teachers work together for the benefit of everyone involved. Also, teachers and other professionals could connect to each other and share ideas of what is working and what is not working. The sharing of ideas with people around the world has no limit. As education and technology change, it will will interesting to see how teachers fit into the social media mix.
